Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How soon will I see a difference?

Exercise boosts the circulation so as soon as you start to include your face in your exercise regime you will notice your skin tone improving because you are boosting your skin with nutrients and oxygen.

Q: How much do I have to do?

The Facefirm workout has been designed with normal busy women in mind! Once you know the routine you can go straight to the exercise itself and not listen to the narration. In this way you can cut it down to ten minutes a day. Anything less acheivable will probably mean you won`t do it!

Q: I`m fifty five. Surely it`s a bit late for me but shall I buy a CD for my daughter? (She`s only twenty five though!)

It`s never too late! Muscle is the only fibre of the body that can be regenerated at any age; if that was not the case then physiotherapy would not exist. Even really wasted muscle can work again so although your facial muscles are dormant you can wake them up again with a bit of work and regain some of the animation and vitality of youth.

As far as your daughter is concerned, buy one for her! Exercising your face is a good insurance policy and will help prevent the signs of ageing from the start. It`s a very good habit to get into even for those who seem too young!

Q: Where can I buy the exercise plan?

The plan is available mail order, right here through our website (www.facefirm.com) - It`s probably the best investment you can make for your beauty regime!

Q: Do I need to check with my doctor before I start?

As with any exercise regime you should definitely check with your doctor before you start.

Q: I use loads of expensive products and really pamper my skin. Why bother with exercise - isn`t what I`m doing already enough?

No amount of products will tone and firm the muscle structure underneath, even if the packet says so. The interesting fact about the skin of your face is that it`s fascia attaches directly to the muscle (unlike the rest of the body where the muscles attach to bone or tendon).

This means that, concerning your face, where the muscles go the skin goes too - literally dragged down by slackening and muscle wastage. So look after the muscle if you want youth to stay firmly in it`s place!

Q: But will I actually start to look younger?

Yes! Relaxed faces look younger and as we get older stress really 'gets to' our faces! With the Facefirm exercise plan, you will immediately become more aware of your facial muscles and learn to un-knit your bows and relax stressed facial muscles. If you keep at it you will firm up muscles and prevent sagging cheeks, double chin hooded eyelids and jowls - need I say more? It really is a natural facelift.

Q: The corners of my mouth have started to turn down and it makes me look so miserable all the time. Is there any exercise to tackle that?

This is a frequent problem. The Facefirm plan includes several exercises that will help to prevent the muscles at the side of your face from slackening and losing bulk. It is this that causes the mouth corners to be pulled down. Exercise will help to firm up the muscle and you will feel the strength of your smile again.

Q: Why is this exercise plan set to music?

Well it is pretty whacky, I`ll grant you that! But music has been scientifically proven to enhance the stamina of people exercising. It also gives the exercises structure and makes it more fun. After all if it`s deadly boring you won`t persist and see results, will you?

Q: But won`t all this face pulling cause wrinkles?

It`s better to pull faces than get into bad facial habits! Wrinkles form over many years of holding the face in a set expression. The exercises are short and each one exercises and stretches the muscles in both directions - for example, as well as scrunching your eyes up tight in an exercise, you release to a wide open expression. Surprisingly, this increased movement actually helps prevent wrinkles; there is recent medical evidence that exercising the face actually boosts the production of collagen and elastin in the skin.

Q: What do you mean by 'facial posture?'

Facial exercise is about working and relaxing the muscles. Many of us are not aware that we are frowning - you only have to take a look around at people in the street to see that many are scowling. Facial posture means becoming aware of your facial expression and taking steps to hold the face better and not allow stress to make your expressions tense. Tense faces are wrinkled faces because you literally etch the pattern of a frown into your face if it stays there long enough!

Q: I find pulling faces really embarrassing! Do you really think it will catch on?

Of course you are going to look a bit silly but you don`t go out in the street to shave your legs or go around with a face mask on in public! There are some things best done in the privacy of your home! Even bouncing around at aerobics classes causes some of us embarrassment but you know it will do you good so you keep at it. And your face is probably the most important part of you - we see your face so why neglect it?

Q: Is there an anti ageing skin cream that definitely works?

Who knows! Even Anita Roddick (the Body Shop) recently said 'wrinkle creams are pap'. But we do know that exercise works so any amount of slapping creams on the surface won`t 'firm' and 'tone' as claimed on the packaging unless you back it up with the work. You don`t rub cream into slack tummy muscles after all...

Q: Can any anti ageing creams actually do harm rather than good?

Again we don`t really know or at least we aren`t told by the cosmetic companies who, after all, need to make money. Even in the public domain, there is increasing evidence that chemicals enter the blood stream through the skin - think of HRT patches or Nicotinette. And yet consumers randomly slap creams on our faces in a desperate attempt to keep the signs of ageing at bay. The skin of our faces is the thinnest and most permeable of the body and is most frequently targeted for chemical 'invasion'. Perhaps it`s time to find a more natural approach. The words 'dermatologically tested' sound good to the consumer but they don`t mean very much.

Q: I`ve enjoyed doing the CD. Is there going to be DVD?

We`re not planning one at present because it defeats the object of a concise and manageable plan if you are tethered to the TV. The beauty of Facefirm is that you can do it whilst doing something else - ironing for example! Women are great at doing two things at once and now some otherwise 'dead' time in the day can be put to good use!

Q: Is there any real evidence that the Facefirm plan works?

Hundreds of women nation wide have bought the plan. They know that exercise works so it makes sense to exercise the face. In a recent newspaper article the reporter, having tried out the plan herself wrote:

"..you suddenly realise that a, you have muscles; b, it feels good to give them a stretch and c, they do not like working unilaterally.

But after a week of perseverance Wow, I`m an aerobics star.

I can wrinkle either nostril at will. The muscle, once found has stopped juddering from lack of use. I have located the muscle operating my right eyebrow... And most importantly, I am aware of my face. And if it starts drooping, I pull it up again." (Surrey Advertiser)
